This traditional stone cottage which is surrounded by mature Beech
trees was found to be too small for our client's growing family needs. The brief was
to design a large contemporary style extension with a strong emphasis on natural light
and taking advantage of the exceptional views available.
The main two storey entrance hall forms a glazed link acting as a bridge
between the old and new and evokes a feeling that the interior interacts with the exterior space.
The combination of traditional proportions, feature pop out windows and natural
finishes all work together in a cohesive manner.
The new extension respects the scale and
proportion of the existing cottage while bringing the overall building up to date with contemporary
design trends.
